The three phases of a human-centered cyclical business

Part 1 - The Regenerative Void.

The business phase that will completely change how you work.

In traditional business there is one goal and one goal only - profit maximization.

There is nothing wrong with that per see, of course you want to be making good money in your business.

It becomes a problem when the focus on profit comes at the expense of the well-being of humans and nature. Which it most often does in traditional business.

When the focus is profit maximization, there is no space for crafting work that is deeply meaningful for you (the founder of your business) or for the people your work is here to serve.

Because crafting that kind of work takes time, dedication, inner work, patience, transformation, and time in the regenerative void.

Three phases of you cyclical business

The Regenerative Void is one of the three phases a human-centered cyclical business goes through regularly. The other two phases are…

The Emergence & Ascension Phase - this is where you craft your work, tend to the systems and structures that support you and you people in your business.

The Integration & Descent Phase - this is where you celebrate your wins, harvest the overflow, evaluate your work and take time to integrate what you’ve learned and experienced before you dip back into the Regenerative Void.

Today we will focus on the Regenerative Void phase.
In blog post 3 and 4 of this series you will learn more about the other two phases.

When you have no zest or inspiration to create…

The Regenerative Void phase of a cyclical business is a phase that doesn’t exist in traditional business practice. It doesn’t even exist in our ”western” culture (the only culture I can speak about from experience).

But ... you can’t craft soul and eros infused deeply meaningful and transformational work without visiting the regenerative void.

Because the RV (to make it simple…) is the very place out of which creative inspiration, insight, fresh perspectives, new attitudes and ideas emerge.

The RV is both the end and the beginning of all creative processes.

You dip into the Regenerative Void when you’re stuck in your work and instead of trying to think your way through it you go for a long meandering walk in nature or take a warm shower or move your body to sensuous music or tap into deep imagination. All of these are RV practices!

Sometimes the Regenerative Void feels like a nourishing warm and cosy womb, sometimes a liminal and mystical cave, other times it’s more of a cocoon wrapping itself around you. And for some the experience is to be buried naked underground in dark soil.

In the Regenerative Void phase your libido, your life force goes underground, and your job is to follow it …

In business this looks like having no zest, no juicy ideas, and there is a sense of deep tiredness as the libido moves away from the upper realm into the realm of the unconscious.

During the RV phase there’s no real desire to move outward.

There can be ”impure” desire to move outward that shows up as ”I should…” statements, but the desire is not backed by any real energy.

When you try to move outward during the RV phase there is a lot of resistance and contraction, and very little ease and expansion.

This phase can last anywhere from 1 second, 2 days, a few months to a few years.

The length of the RV phase can be dependent on how you navigate it. Because you can’t rush, control or manipulate this phase, you have to fully step in and surrender into it.

How to create space for you to take a break in your business

Being in the Regenerative Void is not the same as going on a vacation or taking a sabbatical to focus on something else. It is to intentionally follow your life force underground to tap into deeper resources within yourself.

I the next blog post I will share what you can do and focus on during the RV phase - so stay tuned for that ….

From a short-term financial standpoint, being in the Regenerative Void does not look like good business practice.

But the focus in a soul and eros infused cyclical business is not short-term wins.

The focus is the long-term well-being of the business, the work, for you the founder of the business, and the long-term well-being of the people your work is here to serve.

When you craft a cyclical business the other two phases - Emergence & Ascension phase and Integration & Descent phase - are the phases where you create systems and structures that makes it possible for you to intentionally step into the Regenerative Void on a regular basis.

In a soul and eros infused cyclical business you craft systems and structures that make it possible for you to take a step back during your monthly bleed, or during Midwinter, or when the moon is dark, or when something happens in your life that calls you into the RV.

The systems and structures makes it possible for you to take a step back without your whole business falling apart, because in a soul and eros infused cyclical business the business is the container and soil that holds your work - so that you don’t have to hold all yourself.

In the next blog post in this series we go deeper into the most important things for you to focus on when you are in The Regenerative Void.
